The Sardines do battle against the Pussycats

PICK OF THE SPORT: If you’re a United Rugby Championship fan, you’d better get your shopping done on Saturday morning – because that’s the only time there won’t be URC rugby on your telly.

A full spread of eight matches takes place between Friday and Saturday night, with two South African derbies on Saturday afternoon.

With the Springboks still wrapped in cotton wool as per instructions of the director of rugby, all four local teams are playing their B teams.

The Pussycats, I mean the Lions, have lost four of their last five games. They’ll probably lose by 30 points, but they may just win, too. Whatever is happening with the Sharks team, it’s not good.

Neil Powell was known – no, revered – for the way he could bring young players to the top level in Sevens, but none of that is showing in the current Sardines team. (Sorry, that should be the Sharks team).

The Lions will host the Sharks at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, live on DStv channels 201 and 211.

Can the Bulls team make it to the URC final as they did last year? Let’s see if they can make it past the Stormers first. They’ve won two of their last five matches, while the Stormers have won three out of five.

Fortress Loftus is no more than a silly cliché when the stands are all but empty, and John Dobson is proving to be a great coach when he’s working with the youngsters. The Bulls can possibly win by three or four points, but the Stormers should win by about 20.

The Bulls taking on the Stormers clash will kick off at 5.05pm, live on DStv channels 201 and 211.

  • The Proteas women will take to the field for their third T20 World Cup fixture, hosted in the Mother City, Cape Town.

It has been a mixed bag thus far for South Africa, losing their opener against Sri Lanka before defeating New Zealand earlier in the week.

However, they now face their toughest task, against favourites Australia, on Saturday night.

The Aussies have won all three of their fixtures so far and will look to make it four for four when the match begins at 7pm at St George’s Oval.

The clash will be live on DStv channels 201 and 212.

  • Liverpool face a tough away day in Newcastle in a fixture where not a single football fan would have expected the Reds to be the underdogs.

Liverpool have been through somewhat of a run this season and it could only get worse during their trip to St. James Park on Saturday night at 7.30pm.

After losing their spot at the top of the table, Arsenal will look to reclaim their lead against Aston Villa on Saturday at 2.30pm.

A win for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest will however put them back on top of the standings, that fixture kicks off at 5pm on Saturday.

Manchester United then face Leicester City on Sunday evening at 5pm.

All the Premier League action will be live on DStv channel 203.
