KZN U-turn on King Misuzulu’s praise singer

By Celani Sikhakhane

The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, has changed her mind about firing King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s senior cultural adviser and praise singer iNyosi Buzetsheni Mdletshe.

Dube-Ncube said Mdletshe will now be used if and when he is needed.

“If the King wants iNyosi Mdletshe’s services we are determined to pay him,” she said.

Mdletshe had his contract terminated on Thursday last week.

The premier’s office said the termination was due to financial difficulties.

Mdletshe believes that his services were cut because he refused to take orders from ANC provincial chairperson Siboniso Duma when Duma grabbed the microphone from the King’s traditional prime minister Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi at a commemoration event last month in KwaCeza.

The ANC in KZN said that Mdletshe can’t be a government burden forever as taxpayers are already paying for King Misuzulu’s legal fees.

The ANC’s KZN secretary, Bheki Mtolo, says the provincial government cannot continue spending “too much” taxpayer money on King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

“It’s unfair to the taxpayers, the majority of whom are Zulus, that the kingdom should serve and protect,” said Mtolo in a message posted on the controversial Indonsa Yesizwe WhatsApp group this week.

The DA has also entered the battle as they accused the ANC of disrespecting the King.

The party’s KZN leader, Francois Rodgers, says that the ANC is trying to settle political scores and is abusing its relationship with the King, the Royal Family, and the Zulu nation.
