KwaDukuza – Authorities in KwaDukuza local municipality are under fire after allegations that R37-million was stolen from the municipal Absa account. On Thursday MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi formally wrote to KwaDukuza mayor Muzi Ngidi requesting a report that needs to be submitted within 48 hours. Dealing with the allegations, this report will inform further steps to be taken by the MEC.
Mandeni – The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is fuming over the murder of its Ward 18 councillor Phendukani Mabhida from kwaSithebe Township. Mabhida was killed by people who came to his home and claimed to be looking for his assistance. “We are disgusted to learn that he was brutally murdered at his house by unknown criminals who pretended to be community members who sought his intervention. We trust that police will hunt down the heartless murderers and ensure that they are arrested, convicted and given a hefty sentence to that they rot in jail,” according to the ANC’s statement.
Durban – Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested a total of 13,576 suspects and removed 346 illegal firearms from society during day to day policing and planned operations in the month of January. Also recovered were 3,192 rounds of ammunition of different calibres of firearms. KZN Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says detectives of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit were also hard at work and for their efforts, 268 suspected rapists were arrested, and 41 sexual abusers were also brought to book.
