Chelsea claim second Champions League title

For the third time in two months Chelsea have beaten Manchester City – but this time it was for the UEFA Champions League title.

They first defeated them in the FA Cup semi-final on 17 April, then in the Premier League on 8 May and now they beat City 1-0 in Porto on Saturday.

Chelsea remain the only London club to have won the Champions League trophy. Their first came nine years ago in Germany where they beat Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties.

This is Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel’s first win after he led Paris Saint-Germain to the final where they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.

“We all profit from this experience. We will use it to stay hungry and to grow,” he said.

“It’s a huge step to arrive in the final and an even bigger one to fight your way through. We needed a strong bond to win this match.”

Citizen’s coach Pep Guardiola also had something to say after the match.

“I don’t know about the decisions I made. The players did all they could,” he said.

City ended the season with two trophies, the Premier League and the Carabao title. The Champions League title continues to elude them.

Guardiola was asked whether or not he will strengthen his squad.

“This was a season with 62 games. I’m not clever enough to think about next season,” he said.

“The players gave everything. Unfortunately we could not win but we will come back strong next season.”
