‘We deserve closure’ — Anele Tembe’s father

By Rorisang Modiba

Moses Tembe gave his first official interview since the tragic death of his daughter, Anele Tembe.

Anele, 22, who was engaged to rapper Kiernan Forbes, known as AKA, died after falling from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel on Loop Street in Cape Town in April 2021.

During the incident, she was with her fiancé, AKA, at the hotel.

Almost two years later, AKA was fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban in February 2023, along with his close friend, chef and entrepreneur Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Moses emphasised the family’s need for answers and their desire for the late AKA to have been questioned in court.

During the interview on SABC, host Chriselda Lewis summarised several points by Moses Tembe, including that the Tembe family wanted AKA to appear in the court box, either as a witness or as a suspect.

“Moses Tembe the father of late AKA’s fiance, the late Anele Tembe, speaks to me on the third anniversary of his daughter’s death and the long wait for answers on how her body came to be found on the ground from the 10th floor of a Cape Town hotel,” said Lewis.

* AKA’s parents have broken their silence regarding the book to be released this week entitled When Love Kills: The Tragic Tale of AKA and Anele. In a statement on Monday, Tony and Lynn Forbes said:

“We are not in any way associated with Melinda Ferguson’s book and we do not endorse it. In the same breath, we distance ourselves from the contents of the book.

“When Melinda reached out to us, we respectfully and rightfully declined to contribute to her book.

“At this stage we cannot give any further comment on the book as we are unaware of its contents. We do however find the intended publication of the book and the timing distasteful and opportunistic.”
