Melinda Ferguson’s new book, When Love Kills: The Tragic Tale of AKA and Anele, goes on sale next week.
Kiernan Forbes, widely known as the rapper AKA, was fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban in February 2023. His close friend, the chef and entrepreneur Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, was also killed in the attack.
Anele Tembe was the young woman who tragically fell to her death from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel on Loop Street in Cape Town in April 2021, where she was staying with her fiancé, AKA.
The book’s release was initially revealed on social media on the third anniversary of Anele’s death.
“I have never worked harder on a book,” Ferguson wrote on Facebook.
“I have never been more freaked out by a story. I have never kept a secret like I have this one, but the news [of the book’s release] has just been leaked on social media.
“So here it is from the fire horse’s mouth. It’s been a real journey to get this out. It nearly killed my own relationship. It’s a story that broke my heart.”
