Kaizer Chiefs continued their incredible run in the CAF Champions League by thrashing Tanzanian giants Simba 4-0.
The win in the quarter-final first leg on Saturday at FNB Stadium saw Amakhosi place one foot in the semi-final.
Star striker Samir Nurkovic made up for his two match ban by scoring two goals and Eric “Tower” Mathoho and Leonardo Castro scored another two.
If Simba is to overturn the deficit, they will need to score at least five goals without conceding any goals in the return match.
But that is a gargantuan task. The last time Chiefs conceded that many goals was in March when they were defeated by Wydad Casablanca 4-0 in the first game of the competition.
Simba coach Didier Gomes praised Amakhosi.
“As I said before the match, Chiefs are a very good team. They are very good on attack and today they made a clean sweep without conceding which proves they are solid on defence,” said Gomes.
Meanwhile Pitso Mosimane got the better of his former team, Mamelodi Sundowns, on Saturday.
Al Ahly won 2-0 at home to grab an advantage going into the second leg in Tshwane this Saturday.
This was Mosimane’s first contest with his former club. With the Red Devils he won the Champions League, Egyptian league and Egyptian Cup in the space of one month.
Now he is on course to defend the Champions League title.
