- Traditional leader Inkosi Mkhize fears being killed after being accused of impersonating King Misuzulu at a bank.
- Mkhize says he only signed documents when the board couldn’t reach the king.
A traditional leader accused of impersonating King Misuzulu kaZwelithini at a bank says he now fears for his life during the rising murders of traditional leaders in KwaZulu-Natal.
Inkosi Sibonelo Mkhize of Hlathikhulu, who chairs the Ingonyama Trust Board Finance Committee, was emotional at a meeting on Wednesday.
“I know that my life is now in danger, and I so wish when you want to kill me, please don’t do it when I’m with my children and my wife. At least kill me when I’m alone. I wonder, those who are causing a rift between me and my King, what are they going to benefit out of it?” he asked.
King Misuzulu accused Mkhize at a meeting at Mashobeni Royal Palace in Nongoma last Friday of pretending to be him to sign bank documents for the Ingonyama Trust.
Mkhize says the board asked him to sign because they couldn’t reach King Misuzulu. He spoke of his long connection to the royal family, saying their relationship goes back to when their fathers were students at Bhekuzulu College in Nongoma.
“Even today, I still respect and bow to King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as my Monarch,” said Mkhize, who denied trying to overthrow the king as Ingonyama Trust Board chairperson.
