American singer Brandy Norwood was honoured with the first ever Key to Pike County and the Key to the City of McComb, Mississippi, her hometown, this month.
During the ceremony, Brandy donated funds to buy band instruments for a local middle school. The visit came two days after she headlined the 2026 Essence Festival in New Orleans.
Instead of focusing on her achievements, much of the conversation on social media shifted to her slimmer appearance, with some users expressing concern.
Brandy responded to the chatter with a message on Instagram, without addressing the speculation directly.
“It takes only a moment to form an opinion about someone’s appearance and a lifetime to understand what they’ve lived through,” she wrote.
She continued: “Our words have weight. Our judgments have weight. Our kindness does too. The world will always be tempted to measure people by what is visible, but love has never looked only at the surface.”
Brandy ended her message by urging people to remember that everyone carries a story that cannot be seen from the outside.
The Grammy-winning singer has had a big year. In 2026 alone, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, accepted the Icon Award during Grammy Week, and headlined a major festival performance before returning home to McComb.
She also teased a possible new album during her visit, saying she feels inspired to get back into the studio.
