  • Limpopo star says he’s drowning in debt despite raising R500,000 through donations after a fatal car crash.
  • Shebeshxt regrets not taking shows after the accident and now must repay promoters “millions” for missed gigs.

Despite generous crowdfunding by his fans to help pay his debt, a Limpopo music star is not yet out of the woods.

Shebeshxt has opened up about his money troubles following the tragic loss of his daughter in a car crash in June.

The singer, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Chauke, says he is still R2-million in debt, even after fans donated R500,000 to his daughter’s foundation.

“I had R2-million in debt. I now have over a million after making R500,000 from The Return of Shebeshxt donations for my daughter’s foundation, which does not yet have proper documentation,” he told Zimoja.

Though he acts like everything is fine, Shebeshxt says he is struggling to make ends meet.

“Since my return, it seems as though I have money, but I have been struggling,” Shebeshxt said.

His biggest mistake, he says, was listening to people who told him not to perform after the accident.

“My biggest regret since returning from the hospital was listening to people advise me not to take gigs because they would sabotage me. I still owe many people who booked me before the accident,” he said.

Now he must pay back promoters for all the shows he missed.

“They used my daughter’s name to focus on the return of Shebeshxt, which only gave me R500,000; now I’m left with debt,” he said. “After that horrible accident, I had gigs to attend; now I’m refunding them over millions. But it’s fine; only God knows.”

Fellow Limpopo singer Makhadzi has offered to help, saying she admires his strength and will talk to him privately about how she can assist.

Shebeshxt says he is not looking for money or pity—he just wants to share his pain.
