- The two leaders agreed to visit communities across KwaZulu-Natal together to check if the government is delivering services to people properly.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli met Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini in Durban on Tuesday.
The two leaders met to talk about the ongoing problems at Ithala Bank. The provincial government recently stepped in to stop the bank from closing down.
Ntuli told the King about the resignation of Ithala board members. He used the meeting to update the King on government plans, policies and how services are being delivered to communities.
The premier and the King agreed to visit all districts and municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal together. They want to check on service delivery and listen to what communities need. They also want to improve how the government and traditional leaders work together.
Ntuli promised to respect and support the Zulu monarchy.
“As the 10th Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, I have made a firm undertaking to support the continued modernisation, dignity, and relevance of the Zulu Monarchy, while preserving its rich heritage and cultural leadership role,” Ntuli said.
He said the King is the monarch of both the Zulu Nation and the province. The King will meet ambassadors from other countries in the future to help promote KwaZulu-Natal to the world.
The King’s office said the meeting covered development on land controlled by the Zulu Nation.
The King wants all government projects on this land to include traditional leaders. He said the work must respect traditional authority and improve the lives of the people.
Both offices agreed to keep working closely together. They plan to hold more meetings to discuss government policies and community development.
