Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.

Ladysmith: The legendary singer and oldest member of the Grammy Award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Albert Mazibuko, will be laid to rest at his home town of Ladysmith in the midlands of KwaZulu-Natal this coming weekend. This comes after his funeral was postponed due to the international tour of his group that was in the United States of America. Group manager Xolani Majozi said that due to that tour, none of the group members were in the country and they made a special request to the family that the funeral should take place this coming weekend after the return of the group from the USA tour. Mazibuko, who passed away last week, is among the oldest members who started the group along with its founder Professor Joseph Shabalala.

Pietermaritzburg: Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Thamsanqa Ntuli has raised serious concern about the slow pace of consequence management processes within the provincial government, stressing that delays in holding officials accountable undermine public confidence and weaken the fight against corruption. The Premier expressed this concern during an extended sitting of the Provincial Executive Council attended by Heads of Departments and Chief Financial Officers. The meeting focused on strengthening governance systems, improving financial management and ensuring that disciplinary and investigative processes are concluded decisively and within reasonable time frames.

uMlazi: Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested five suspects aged between 20 and 44 years old at uMlazi following a robbery at a jewellery store at a shopping mall in uMhlanga on Sunday. During the arrests, some of the items suspected to have been stolen during the robbery were recovered. Whilst processing the scene at the mall, police received crucial information that the suspects in the robbery were seeking a buyer of the stolen items at uMlazi. Police officers from the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit as well as eThekwini District Task Team swiftly acted on the intelligence and went to uMlazi in search of the suspects. Through coordinated effort, hard work and perseverance, police arrested five suspects in the early hours of Monday morning. During the operation, jewellery estimated to be valued at R3-million was recovered as well as clothing, bank cards and mobile routers.
