- Spokesperson Sthembiso Mshengu spoke on Gagasi FM on Tuesday to say Senzo Mchunu will explain his choice to the country.
- Twelve senior police officers were arrested for taking money after Senzo Mchunu stopped a big contract for businessman Vusimuzi Matlala.
Police minister Senzo Mchunu is willing to tell the public why he closed the Political Killing Task Team.
He is ready to do this even if the president decides not to make him minister again.
His spokesperson, Sthembiso Mshengu, said this during an interview on Gagasi FM on Tuesday.
Mshengu said Mchunu has no problem explaining his choice.
“As human beings we always make mistakes but in this instance there will be a time where Mchunu will address the people of this country,” Mshengu said.
This decision has caused problems between Mchunu and KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mshengu said Mchunu knows the president decides who becomes a minister.
“Mchunu believes that as a South African he must account,” he said.
Churches are organising national prayers to support Mchunu.
Mshengu said Mchunu is not part of the prayers. But he is thankful to the churches because he needs emotional support.
Mshengu said some people and academics are taking sides.
He said they are ignoring the good work Mchunu has done to stop corruption in the police.
Mshengu said Mchunu stopped a R360-million contract. He said this is a large amount of money.
This decision to expose corruption led to the arrest of 12 top police officers.
These officers are now out on bail.
They were arrested for allegedly taking kickbacks after the contract was given to businessman Vusimuzi Matlala, who is also known as Cat.
Mkhwanazi exposed corruption in the police on 6 July 2025.
This led to the creation of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The commission is led by Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga and is looking into these claims.
