A man who allegedly asked the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to block former president Jacob Zuma from contesting the upcoming general elections has denied the objection is his and says his email was hacked.
The uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) is appealing the IEC’s decision to ban Zuma from the ballot with the Electoral Court.
Bethuell Terrence Nkosi, the third respondent cited in MK’s appeal, told the party’s lawyers that he never filed an objection with the IEC.
MK spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela revealed this to Scrolla.Africa on Wednesday after the party filed its appeal with the Electoral Court.
“Our lawyers contacted two people who filed the objection with the IEC. The first one is Dr Maroba Jimmy Matsapola of the Western Cape Gambling Board and a guy called Bethwell Nkosi,” said Ndlela.
“Matsapola agreed with our lawyers that he filed the objection. Nkosi told our lawyers that he knew nothing about the objection to the IEC. He said his emails were hacked.”
MK states that the IEC’s objection to Zuma was unfair because no notification was sent to the party before the decision was announced and that the IEC sent the notification to the wrong email address – it used [email protected] instead of [email protected].
