KwaDukuza: The first wife of the Zulu King, Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela of kwaNkomonye Royal Palace, and MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure Martine Meyer have brought hope to rural children with autism by handing over land for the construction of a school in KwaDukuza, Stanger, north of KZN.
MEC Meyer said the department took a decision to release 81 unused properties identified during an audit of its 10 067 KZN Public Works and Infrastructure assets. The audit revealed how many assets were unused, abandoned or illegally occupied. The 81 assets, including buildings and land parcels, were found to be deadweight contributing to a nearly R2 billion rates bill and costing the department millions per year in rates that could be used elsewhere.
KwaNdengezi: Police in KwaNdengezi, west of Durban, have arrested three security guards for attempted murder, malicious damage to property and assault after a video of the incident went viral. An e-hailing driver was allegedly assaulted and the tyre of his vehicle shot at during a confrontation with security guards linked to a taxi association on Wednesday morning.
Police say the driver was picking up passengers on the MR518 road when he was blocked by two security vehicles. He managed to drive away but was followed, and his vehicle was bumped by one of the security vehicles and brought to a standstill. One security guard allegedly shot the tyre of the e-hailing vehicle while two others allegedly assaulted the driver. He was rescued by police officers who were nearby.
