Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.
Durban: The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal calls for a full investigation into the troubled Ithala SOC Limited, following the resignation of the entire five-member board. These developments raise urgent questions about how Ithala has been allowed to deteriorate to this extent. “KZN’s people deserve answers. How did Ithala get to this crisis point? What failures in governance, oversight and accountability led to this situation?” the party asked. The DA firmly believes that a full and transparent investigation is now essential. The party says that while there are indications that a Special Investigating Unit process may already be underway, the province cannot afford to stand back. “A preliminary provincial investigation must be initiated without delay to establish the facts, identify any wrongdoing and ensure accountability,” said the DA.
Mahlabathini: Hawks members from Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Zululand District Task Team, Mahlabathini Detectives and Ulundi Tactical Response Team arrested a 35-year-old suspect Scelo Khoza for possession of unlicensed firearms at Ezinqunyaneni Reserve in Mahlabathini. Members received information about a suspect who was in possession of unlicensed firearms in the area. In the early hours of Thursday morning, a joint operation was conducted and they went to the homestead. Upon arrival, a search was conducted in the house and police found one AK47 rifle with two magazines, one 9mm pistol with thirteen live rounds of ammunition. Khoza briefly appeared in the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court today and was remanded in custody.
Estcourt: The President of the Inkatha Freedom Party, Velenkosini Hlabisa, officially welcomed more than 300 new members who have joined the party from various political formations in the Imbabazane Constituency, under the Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality in Estcourt. The IFP continues to distinguish itself as a credible and principled alternative, committed to restoring dignity, integrity and constitutional governance. “The influx of new members is a clear vote of confidence in the IFP’s leadership and its vision for a stable, united and prosperous South Africa,” the party said.
