Bergville: The small rural town of Bergville in the Drakensberg, KZN midlands, has a reason to celebrate after a local doctor made her community proud when she delivered an eye-opening speech about political involvement in the health sector in London. A month after she graduated at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine for her Masters in Public Health on 31 March, Dr Lethulwenama Letsoalo is still making waves on social media for being proud of her rural town. She also touched many hearts as she introduced her mother who was in the gallery and greeted her in isiZulu. Many social media users fell in love with her bravery and achievements while raising the flag of South Africa and her Bergville hometown. She told her peers that healthcare is not just a medical issue. It is shaped by politics, by economics and by deep inequality. London did not change where she came from. It made her see it more clearly. She reminded the attendants that the lessons they learned were not just about being excellent. They were about being responsible.
Durban: The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the sentence of life imprisonment handed down by the Durban High Court to former Metro Police Officer Thulasizwe Qiniso Sishi, 41. This follows his guilty plea to the July 2025 murder of his wife, Thandokuhle Verontter Sishi, 48. In his plea, Sishi stated that he and the deceased were in a domestic relationship and lived together. He said their relationship was characterised by repeated aggression and violence from both parties, which resulted in their divorce in November 2024. However, they remarried in May 2025.
KwaCeza: Police in KwaCeza near Ulundi, north of KZN, are seeking the help of the public in locating Sabelo Mbatha, 35, who was last seen on 5 January 2025 at Dayingubo area in KwaCeza. At the time of his disappearance he was wearing blue denim and a green t-shirt. Anyone with knowledge regarding the whereabouts of Mbatha is urged to contact investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Shandu on 079 889 9602 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
