One of the few South African rappers who has not yet tapped into the burgeoning amapiano genre is A-Reece. But the hip hop artist is back on the commercial scene with his latest music video for the track “tufF lucK”.
A-Reece released the hit on Friday under the duo Blue Tape, which consists of him and his older brother Jay Jody.
And it looks like the brothers from Pretoria have dropped the biggest hip hop music video on the street right now. It’s sitting at a humble fifth spot on YouTube’s trending music list, having climbed from number 11 in just 24 hours.
With “tufF lucK”, A-Reece and Jay Jody take lovers of the genre on a rollercoaster of straight hip hop. The song gives fans a breather from the mighty rule of amapiano.
It features appearances from other rappers close to the brothers like 25K, “the new age Makaveli”, and T-Kay, who is half of the famous hip hop duo with Jay Jody called B3nchmarq.
A-Reece and Jay Jody, who is also known as P-Jay, had dropped “tufF lucK” as part of their album heaveN caN waiT : thE narroW dooR voL.1 in December last year. The album landed at number two on its first week on the iTunes album charts, proving hardcore SA hip hop is not dead.
”I told Jod we’re not recording 100 songs to shortlist later on in the album making process… we ain’t making it if it ‘won’t/might’ not make the album,” said A-Reece after dropping the album under Revenge Club Records.
“I said we’re gonna approach this project with a focused intention to record every song specifically for this album.”
The “tufF lucK” music video, which was directed by Saya Creatives, has managed to collect over 100,000 views on YouTube.
