Thousands of outraged anti-vaccine protesters took to the streets in France after the country’s president said last week that his vaccine strategy was to “piss off” anti-vaxxers.
Angry protesters rallied in several French cities on Saturday, directing chants of “We’ll piss you off!” to President Emmanuel Macron.
Placards bearing the message “No to the vaccine pass” were seen among the crowds. They are resisting Macron’s intention to introduce a law which would mean unvaccinated citizens won’t be able to enter some public places.
Macron also told Le Parisien that unvaccinated people were irresponsible and should not be considered citizens.
“[Macron’s remarks] were the last straw. We are not irresponsible,” hospital administrator Virginie Houget told the Guardian.
Houget managed to avoid a mandatory jab for all health workers in France because she was ill with Covid-19 when the order was made.
