The French president has caused a stir after telling a newspaper that his new vaccine strategy was to “piss off” anti-vaxxers into getting the jab.
“I’m not about pissing off the French people,” Emmanuel Macron told Le Parisien on Tuesday.
“But as for the non-vaccinated, I really want to piss them off. And we will continue to do this, to the end. This is the strategy.
“In a democracy, the worst enemies are lies and stupidity,” Macron went on to say.
“We are putting pressure on the unvaccinated by limiting, as much as possible, their access to activities in social life.”
The interview was of course given in French, and the word Mr Macron actually used was “emmerder”. This word literally means “to shit on”, but is used in France to mean “to piss off”.
Macron’s comments were made in light of new laws, which if passed, will mean that unvaccinated people won’t be able to enter many public places, even if they test negative.
Cinemas, cafes, bars, clubs, restaurants, museums and even some trains and planes will be off limits to anti-vaxxers come this summer – which will definitely piss a lot of them off.
