Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard will still be in charge when Kaizer Chiefs take on Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg.
The match is scheduled for Saturday at the Stade Mohammed V in Morocco at 9pm.
Zwane and Sheppard were in charge of Amakhosi’s last two DStv Premiership matches following the sacking of Gavin Hunt. They won both games, helping the team to finish in the top eight.
Stuart Baxter, from Britain, was appointed as Amakhosi’s head coach a week ago after the club fired Hunt.
The statement explained that Baxter’s appointment had to be postponed while the club’s administration works to complete his work permit.
Baxter rejoined the Soweto giants last week and once he receives his work permit he will be assisted by both Zwane and Sheppard.
“Coach Baxter will, however, travel with the team to the North African country, as the team gets ready for the all-important semi-final game against two-time CAF Champions League winners.”
Chiefs got a 4-0 thumping in the first match in the group stages from Wydad AC back in February. Chiefs, however, managed to get the better of the Moroccans in the second match in Soweto in April. Amakhosi won that game 1-0 and eventually progressed to the knockout stages.
Zwane and Sheppard know very well what is waiting for them in Morocco.
Chiefs’ success in this tournament won’t be celebrated by everyone. Should they manage to win it, the likes of AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates will not be happy at all.
Victory in the tournament for Chiefs will see Usuthu being relegated to the Confederation Cup and Buccaneers being booted out as well, as winning the competition guarantees your spot for the following season.
