A terrible sickness is sweeping South Africa.
We know it by the official term Gender Based Violence (GBV).
But that doesn’t nearly tell the story of the physical and emotional abuse women are subjected to.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared GBV the new national disaster facing the country – alongside the Covid-19 pandemic.
In June alone, more than 30 women and children were killed in cases of gender based violence.
This is despite renewed focus by the government and the police to fight this pandemic.
Today we run a three part series – telling the stories of three strong women.
A police officer, a sangoma and a musician – who have all been abused and attacked by people they trusted and loved.
