There was no separating West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur as the Premier League’s full slate of midweek fixtures got underway on Tuesday.
Three of the opening five midweek clashes finished 1-1, with the goals coming earliest at the London Stadium.
Brennan Johnson’s opener came after just five minutes for Spurs, with Ange Postecoglou’s side then conceding 15 minutes later to an unusual Kurt Zouma finish as the visitors struggled to deal with a Jarrod Bowen set-piece.
The Hammers absorbed the pressure as Spurs dominated possession. When the opportunities did come, David Moyes’ side showed conviction on the break.
Ultimately there would be no finishing touch on either side, though, resulting in the spoils being shared on derby day.
In the earlier games, Newcastle would have saw their draw with Everton as an opportunity missed, with Aleksander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the scoresheet at St James’s Park.
Burnley and Wolves drew, too, however Bournemouth would come out 1-0 victors at the Vitality with Justin Kluivert getting the winner over Crystal Palace.
The only goal fest on the night came at the City Ground with Chris Wood getting his third league goal on the spin in Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 win over Fulham.
On Wednesday, champions Manchester City take on fourth placed Aston Villa after title challengers Arsenal host Luton Town and Brentford take on Brighton at the Community Stadium.
