Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane says he is not worried about losing his job following the rough patch being experienced by the Soweto giants.
Pressure continues to mount on Zwane and his men due to inconsistency and unconvincing displays.
Straight defeats by Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu have seen the gap between Chiefs and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns widen to 19 points.
Just as they seek to recover from their slump in form, Amakhosi face what could turn out to be a difficult task when they host Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Masandawana are on a run of 11 straight Premier Soccer League wins and that makes them favourites ahead of Saturday’s clash.
This fixture comes as calls for Zwane to step down are growing louder, from fans to South African football legends, but the Chiefs coach looks unconcerned.
“I’m not worried about losing my job because I knew when I took this job that at some point I would have to give other people the opportunity,” said Zwane at a press conference.
“What I didn’t know was how long I was going to be in this position. At the moment, however, I’ve got a task to fulfil and I’m doing exactly what the team has asked me to do.”
While Zwane says he is not losing sleep because of the risk his job is in, his captain, Itumeleng Khune, is pleading not to be judged by the mistake he made against AmaZulu last weekend.
Khune made a blunder that allowed Usuthu to score one of the goals in the 4-0 defeat; but he vowed to bounce back against Sundowns.
“With situations like this, I must rise. One game doesn’t define an individual,” Khune said.
“I’ve played for over two decades and have been called names. But the most important thing is that I bounce back. I don’t think being given the underdog tag will affect our preparations. We urge our fans to rally behind us. Without them we’re nothing.”
Also making Sundowns pose a huge threat to Chiefs is that the reverse league fixture between the two giants ended 4-0 in favour of the Brazilians.
