  • The Constitutional Court on Friday threw out Prince Simakade kaZwelithini’s bid to remove his half-brother King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as the Zulu King.
  • The Royal Council held a media briefing in Durban on Monday to share the ruling and called on all Zulus to get behind King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

The Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, says all Zulus must now stand together behind King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

Buthelezi thanked President Cyril Ramaphosa and KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli for stepping up during the legal battle.

“On behalf of the royal family, we wish to thank President Cyril Ramaphosa and KZN Premier Mr Thamsanqa Ntuli for their decisive leadership in ensuring that the necessary logistical and legal expertise is made available for the truth to be defended,” he said.

Buthelezi says Prince Simakade, Prince Mbonisi and all others who tried to take the throne have run out of legal options and must now accept it is over.

King Misuzulu kaZwelithini will open the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature on 26 February in Pietermaritzburg, Buthelezi said.

Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, son of the late Prime Minister Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, says the ruling is also a win for his father, who was attacked after reading the will that named Misuzulu kaZwelithini as Zulu King.

Spokesperson Prince Thulani Zulu of eZibindini Royal Palace says fights over kingship are nothing new and happened with kings who came before.
