The King of the Zulu nation has told the provincial cabinet what he would like to see them do in the next five years in office.
King Misuzulu KaZwelithini laid out his wishes yesterday in Ulundi when Premier Thami Ntuli led in the cabinet, introducing the new provincial MECs to the monarch.
Scrolla.Africa has obtained the King’s official speech.
The King warned that the conduct of those who emerged victorious and the reaction of those who lost out is important in maintaining peace.
“The behaviour of both the victors and those who did not fare as well in the elections is of equal importance.
“I want to commend the leaders, members and followers of the political parties elected into the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature for choosing to act with integrity despite the challenges that arose.
“Although some may take this lightly, it is essential to restore trust and respect for leaders and political institutions,” the King said.
Speaking directly to Ntuli as the head of the provincial government, the King asked him to deal with unemployment and crime in the province and restore the infrastructure that is falling apart.
“The youth in this home (KwaZulu-Natal) are unemployed. Women, children, and the elderly live in constant fear due to the actions of those who should be their protectors.
“Infrastructure is deteriorating in both urban and rural areas. We are plagued by evil, with criminals acting with impunity. Men, children, women, the elderly, izinduna, and amakhosi are falling victim to gun violence.
“As your King, this situation deeply shames me. I pray that in the next five years, the government will work collaboratively to change this picture of our home.
“Let this be a new beginning. It is a time to collaborate, listen to one another and unify our purpose.”
