King Misuzulu kaZwelithini will marry Queen Nomzamo Myeni at kwaKhangela Royal Palace in Nongoma on Sunday.
Prince Gibizizwe Zulu confirmed the royal wedding, saying the king had asked him to tell the nation about the upcoming umgcagco on 9 November. He encouraged people to attend the ceremony in large numbers.
The wedding was first planned for January but was postponed. The delay came as the king went into seclusion for prayer and to lead a first fruit ritual at Mashobeni Palace.
At the time, the postponement caused tension because the king was also going through a divorce with Queen Ntokozo Mayisela, who objected to the new marriage. She called it bigamy, but the pair later made peace.
Rumours grew after a leaked letter, allegedly written by the king, asked then KwaZulu-Natal premier’s office director-general Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize to remove Myeni’s security and other benefits.
Following that, Myeni stopped attending royal events, fuelling talk of a breakup. The king later sent a delegation with a cow to apologise to her family, and she reappeared at royal gatherings.
Meanwhile, the king has also been linked to Princess Sihle Mdluli from the KwaMawewe tribal authority in Mpumalanga.
