- The Zulu king has delayed his wedding to Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni after Queen Majiyane, wife of Prince Golden Zulu, passed away.
- The royal family says the wedding, planned for 9 November, has been postponed indefinitely as they mourn the king’s grandmother.
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has again postponed his wedding to Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni, this time because of the death of his grandmother, Queen Majiyane.
The Zulu Royal Family said the traditional wedding, planned for 9 November, has been postponed indefinitely.
In a short statement, the family said: “Due to the untimely passing of uNdlunkulu MaJiyane kaMntwana uGolden Zulu, the Zulu Royal Family has had to cancel the traditional wedding of Queen Nomzamo Myeni and her beau King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.”
Queen Majiyane, who was married to Prince Golden Zulu, died peacefully at her home in Ntuzuma township, north of Durban.
Prince Golden was the son of Queen Esther and King Solomon kaDinuzulu from KwaDlamahlahla Royal Palace in Nongoma. His half-brother, King Bhekuzulu kaSolomon, was the father of the late King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu.
The KwaDlamahlahla Royal Palace is now home to Queen Buhle kaMathe, the second wife of the late King Zwelithini.
King Solomon’s reign is remembered as one of the most difficult periods in Zulu history because British rulers refused to recognise him as king, calling him only a local chief.
Despite that, many Zulu leaders and intellectuals, including John Langalibalele Dube, regarded him as their true monarch. In 1923, King Solomon founded Inkatha YaKwaZulu to strengthen royal unity, an organisation later revived by his nephew Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
