Zakes Bantwini will be hanging up the microphone after 16 years of performing.
Zakes, a musician, entrepreneur and producer who comes from KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal, is known for his hit songs, “Clap Your Hands” and “Osama” from his recent album Ghetto King.
Zakes, real name Zakhele Madida, said when his album Abantu is released and he has performed in all nine provinces in the country he will call time on his glittering career.
He will begin his tour in November in Cape Town.
Zakes told Scrolla.Africa that he will still be in the industry even though he may not be performing.
“I’ll never not be in an environment where I won’t be involved in music in some form or another. This will not be the last my fans hear from me. Music has been and will forever be my greatest passion in life,” he said.
The singer said he has dealt with many challenges in the industry but his friends and family have kept him grounded.
“The only way that I have kept myself going is the unwavering support of my family and close friends. A strong support system is the lifeline of any career,” he said.
“I will miss performing every day, especially Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but I think it’s time.
You should always quit while you’re on top, and I’d like to do that.”
