A woman in her 50s died after her car was swept away by floodwaters during a heavy downpour in Sarnia near Pinetown on Thursday evening.
Rescue teams found her body early Friday morning inside the wreckage near the corner of Gordon and Stapleton Roads, west of Durban.
Craig Jamieson from ALS Paramedics said the woman was reported missing during Thursday night’s storm, which brought chaos to parts of Durban.
The South African Weather Service had issued a Level 6 warning for disruptive rain in eThekwini and six other municipalities.

Massive rainfall caused rocks to fall onto the M13 route on Field’s Hill, leading to road closures and major traffic delays. Some areas were left waterlogged, with knee-deep floods blocking roads during peak hours.
On Friday morning, emergency workers were busy clearing debris from major roads across central Durban and the Upper Highway area.
The weather service also warned of a 100% chance of more rain later on Friday and urged people living in flood-prone and low-lying areas to stay alert.
