Andre Onana’s delayed arrival in Ivory Coast for Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign saw him left out of the match day squad to face Guinea, despite reaching the stadium in time for the game.
After playing in United’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Onana immediately made his way to John Lennon Airport in Liverpool to take a flight to Ivory Coast.
Due to delays, the shot-stopper was unable to land in Yamoussoukro, where the game was taking place. He made the 8,000 km journey to the ground in time for kick-off, though, but was still left out of manager Rigobert Song’s squad.
Onana had to be calmed down by former Liverpool and Senegal man El Hadji Diouf, who was pictured chatting to the 27-year-old ahead of kick-off.
“If I wasn’t going to play or make the team, then why did I come here on a private jet?!” Onana asked Diouf, according to GOAL.
The player was replaced by Fabrice Ondoa in goal, while Devis Epassy and Simon Ngapandouetnbu occupied spots on the substitutes bench.
Cameroon went on to draw the game 1-1, and in their next game they’ll take on Senegal on Friday.
