United stunned while Spurs leave it late

By Razeen Gutta

Old Trafford was breached by Brighton while Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City came back from behind to win, as Saturday’s Premier League afternoon delivered 16 goals.

At Spurs, a second-half goal by Gustavo Hamer was almost enough for newly promoted Sheffield United to put Ange Postecoglou’s side away.

The 26-year-old Dutchman latched onto a long throw and thought that he had altered the narrative of the unbeaten North London side.

It was not to be though, as Richarlison created magic off the bench for the hosts. The Brazilian scored one and assisted the next as Spurs took all three points in added time.

Over in Manchester, Erik Ten Hag’s side were convincingly beaten by Brighton as Roberto De Zerbi’s side won 3-1 thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Groß and substitute Joao Pedro.

United’s rivals City, on the other hand, went behind to a James Ward Prowse goal before coming back to win 3-1 at West Ham with finishes from Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland.

In other results, Aston Villa also came back from behind to beat Crystal Palace 3-1 while Fulham defeated Luton 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

In the late game, Newcastle United beat Brentford 1-0 at St James’s Park with Callum Wilson scoring from the penalty spot just after the hour mark.

The Magpies and the Bees now sit level on points, with a Uefa Champions League test against Milan next on the horizon for Newcastle.
