Two members of the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party were killed in Katlehong on Sunday night.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Brigadier Brenda Muridili said police in Gauteng have arrested one suspect for the alleged murder of two people in Katlehong North on 26 May.

“It is reported that two members from uMkhonto Wesizwe party were shot and killed during a dispute with members affiliated with the ANC at Thwala Section in Katlehong North,” she said.

“One victim died on the scene while the other was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.”

She said one firearm and a knife were recovered on the scene.

Gauteng police senior communications officer Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the motive would be investigated.

“The case of two counts involving murder has been allocated to the provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Investigation,” he said.

The suspect will be appearing before court soon.

The incident happened just days before the general elections on Wednesday.

Last week, a five-year-old was struck with a bullet when ANC members clashed with EFF members in Seshego, Limpopo. The little girl is recovering in hospital.

SAPS has told the nation that they will maintain peace and order during the elections.
