Trump the chump goes from President to boxing commentator

Former president of the United States Donald Trump will host a boxing event on Saturday evening, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

US viewers will have to pay a sizable R710 to hear Trump share his wisdom on the heavyweight fight between boxing veterans Evander Holyfield and Vitor Belfort.

The twice impeached former president will be joined by his son, Donald Trump Jnr, for the fight as well as the undercard, which are taking place in Florida.

“I love great fighters and great fights,” Trump Sr is quoted in the promotional material for the fights.

Before embarking on an ill-fated career in politics, Trump had promoted a handful of fights in the 1980s and 90s.

“I look forward to seeing both this Saturday night and sharing my thoughts ringside. You won’t want to miss this special event.”

That “special event” unfortunately coincides with another: it will be 20 years to the day that 2,996 people were killed in four separate terrorist attacks in the US.

While Trump and his son share their insights on the boxing match, President Joe Biden will spend the day visiting three separate memorial sites.

Trump’s decision to commentate on the fight has drawn widespread criticism on social media.

One user tweeted: “I’m not sure yet what President Biden will be doing on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. But I know he won’t be charging $50 per person to listen to him commentating on a boxing match like Trump will be. Beyond disrespectful.”

Australian boxing author Alex McClintock meanwhile wrote: “If you ever feel like things are going badly, remember Donald Trump went from President of the United States to commentator on a novelty boxing match in Florida between two guys with a combined age of 102 in less than nine months.”
