Trevor Noah’s special thanks to black women

After seven years of hosting The Daily Show, Trevor Noah on Thursday night waved an emotional goodbye.

The South African comedian took over as host of the popular show from Jon Stewart in 2015.

As the show drew to a close, an emotional Noah said his final goodbyes.

“Honestly, most importantly, I’m grateful to you,” he said at the closing.

“I remember when we started the show, we couldn’t get enough people to fill an audience. And then I look at this now. I don’t take it for granted. Ever. Every seat that has ever been filled to watch something that I’m doing, I always appreciate because I know the empty seat that sits behind it.”

Eyebrows were raised when Noah was announced as the new show host but the success he leaves behind shows he was the right fit for the role.

Noah explained that if people really want to find out more about the United States, they should converse with black women in the country.

“I always tell people: ‘If you truly want to learn about America, talk to black women.’ Because unlike everybody else, black women cannot afford to f*ck around and find out,” Noah said.

He also thanked the several different black women in his life who have shaped him into the success he is currently.

Noah ended his farewell speech by thanking everyone who has watched the show, even those who have not enjoyed it.

“I’m grateful to every single one of you, this has been an honour. Thank you,” he said.

As for what is next, the 38-year-old will now travel to Qatar to watch the final few fixtures of the World Cup.

Noah will then head back home to South Africa to spend the festive period with family before going on his Off the Record comedy world tour.
