Popular SABC 1 drama series Uzalo has been dumped by one of its leading actors, Omuhle Gela, due to a change in their agreement.
It has emerged that what led to the separation between the two parties is that Uzalo changed the terms and conditions in the contract.
Since she had to relocate from Johannesburg to KwaZulu-Natal, there was a clause Gela signed that would allow her to pursue other interests.
But hardly a year after she joined the weekday drama, the two parties clashed. The sultry actress confirmed her exit on her Instagram account.
“Unfortunately I have decided to leave the show with immediate effect due to reasons beyond my control.”
In the statement Stained Glass, which produces the drama series, also confirmed the split.
“We would like to thank Omuhle for being part of the Uzalo family and would like to wish her all the best in her future endeavours,” the production company said.
Omuhle joined the Durban-based drama late last year amid fanfare. It was believed her arrival would boost the ratings. She played Nomsa Magwaza, the daughter of Njinji, played by the veteran Thembi Nyende who has worked in major TV dramas like Isibiya. Omuhle endeared her name to screen viewers as Busi Motsamai on Muvhango.
