French midfielder Paul Pogba made stunning claims that he was being targeted for extortion by gangsters which included his brother Mathias.
Police in France have opened an investigation into the claims after Mathias released a video online promising to make “great revelations” about his brother Paul.
A statement released under the signature of his lawyers, his mother Yeo Moriba and his agent Rafaela Pimenta said the video came as no surprise.
“They are in addition to threats and extortion attempts by an organised gang against Paul Pogba,” read the statement.
“The appropriate bodies in Italy and France were informed a month ago and there will be no further comments in relation to the ongoing investigation.”
Mathias, who is also a footballer, said on the video, that the world, his brother’s fans, and the French team and Juventus, Pogba’s team-mates and sponsors deserve to know certain things.
“All this is likely to be explosive,” said Mathias.
Reports in France suggest the alleged gang are childhood friends of the Pogba brothers and are demanding millions of dollars in compensation for “services provided” over the years, according to France Info.
Mathias is said to be a part of the scheme and will release “compromising videos” of his brother if the money is not paid.
Pogba was believed to have been threatened by the gang with assault rifles when they dragged him into a Paris apartment in March.
The 29-year-old Fifa World Cup winner recently made a move back to Italy with Juventus after a failed stint with Manchester United.
He is currently sidelined with a knee injury and is expected back in action next month.
Mathias is not only targeting his brother however, football superstar Kylian Mbappe has also been the subject of the Pogba feud.
Mathias claimed that Paul asked a witchdoctor to cast a spell on his French teammate Mbappe.
