Fifa doesn’t take kindly to clubs who do not pay their contracted players and South African clubs continue to suffer the wrath of football’s governing body.
DStv Premiership outfit Swallows became the latest club to be banned from registering new players having had a two-year ban slapped on them for not paying two former players. Until they pay what they owe, Swallows will not be allowed to register new players in the Premier Soccer League.
Vladimir Mandic and Obren Cuckovic took their matter to Fifa when the Dube Birds did not pay them in 2015.
Their former coach, Brandon Truter who got sacked last season, also threatened to take his case to Fifa. Truter is now the AmaZulu coach.
Kaizer Chiefs faced the Fifa transfer ban when they were found guilty in the 2018/19 season for not properly signing the Madagascan midfielder Dax Adrianarimanana from his club Fosa Juniors.
Their ban ended in the 2020/21 season but after that three more teams followed.
Bloemfontein Celtic were also at the wrong end of Fifa regulations when they parted ways with their long serving goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.
They owed the Cameroonian a R3 million settlement for unfair dismissal. In 2021, they were banned for one year and did not register new players.
In 2020 Chippa were also in trouble after not paying Augustine Kwem but it was lifted after they settled their debts.
Early this year Marumo Gallants were banned for two years for non-payment. After they settled their debt with former Chiefs forward Gustavo Paez their ban was also lifted. The ban was supposed to end in August next year at the end of the first player registration.
