  • Suspended deputy national police commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya claimed that General Hilda Senthumule accepted 10 free fridges from businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala for the SAPS Excellence Awards ceremony.
  • Sibiya denied moving dockets from the KZN Political Killings Task Team improperly, saying Commissioner Fannie Masemola knew about his actions.

Suspended deputy national police commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya used his testimony at the Madlanga Commission on Thursday to make serious claims against fellow senior officers.

Sibiya alleged that General Hilda Senthumule accepted 10 free fridges from businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala for the SAPS Excellence Awards. He said WhatsApp messages showed this had taken place.

He also alleged that Matlala paid for a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery for Senthumule. Sibiya said Matlala was also invited to Senthumule’s private home.

Sibiya said these issues were part of a wider pattern of alleged links between senior police officials and people facing criminal allegations.

At the same time, Sibiya pushed back against accusations made against himself. He denied that his transfer of dockets from the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team was improper and said National Commissioner Fannie Masemola knew about his actions.

He also denied a corrupt relationship with Witness F and said the individual does not report to him.

On a white BMW spotted at the home of Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe in November 2024, Sibiya said the vehicle was only assigned to his office in August 2025, almost a year later.

Sibiya said the Political Killings Task Team was not involved in the investigation into the disappearance of Pretoria businessman Jerry Boshoga. Boshoga’s family received ransom demands of up to R10-million after he went missing in November 2024.

Sibiya said his testimony was a direct response to the allegations against him and insisted he acted within the law.
