A Limpopo stepfather will spend life behind bars for raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter after driving her to a house in the bush.
The Groblersdal Regional Court sentenced the 52-year-old man on Tuesday, 25 February after finding him guilty of the 2019 rape.
The court heard that in October 2019, the man drove the young girl to an unknown house in the bush at Bloempoort Village, telling her they would live there from that day.
He then tied her hands with a cable tie and raped her. He threatened to kill both her and her mother if she told anyone what happened.
The girl kept the terrible secret for three years before finally telling her mother in 2022. The mother went straight to the police to open a rape case.
Sergeant Thabitha Letladi from the Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit investigated the case.
Police arrested the stepfather and he was found guilty of rape under section 3 of Act 32 of 2007.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the life sentence. She praised the investigating officer and everyone who helped put the rapist behind bars.
