He is chasing the Premier Soccer League Golden Boot with two goals fewer than leading scorer Peter Shalulile.
He is one of the very few players to score a hat-trick in the PSL this season.
This is a player who is currently the CAF Confederation Cup top goal-scorer, having found the back of the net five times in six matches.
Marumo Gallants forward Ranga Chivaviro has been quietly doing his business both on the domestic front and in Africa.
But few have noticed the 30-year-old from Limpopo whose coach Raymond Mdaka admits is carrying Bahlabani ba Ntwa on his shoulders.
“If I’m not mistaken he is on eight or nine [goals],” Mdaka said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“You see these are the kind of players that when you have them upfront there, you always believe that at any given moment if anything comes you can get a goal.
“So it gives us courage if you have those kinds of players in a game. And I think he did very well. I’m happy for him.”
Leading Gallants’ fight against relegation, Chivaviro’s hat-trick against Chippa United on Wednesday was crucial in sending the Limpopo outfit three points clear of basement side Maritzburg United.
It was his fourth goal in two league games to rescue Bahlabani ba Ntwa, who spent several weeks struggling in the relegation zone.
While there has not been much noise around Chivaviro, there are already reports that Orlando Pirates are closely monitoring him.
He is tied on nine league goals with Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng, who also has a hat-trick this season.
Unheralded, this is Chivaviro’s third season in the PSL, having previously tasted top-flight league football with Baroka.
In 2021, he spent six months at KF Trepca 89 in Kosovo.
