Rihanna surprised fans with a rare stage appearance, joining Jay-Z at his Yankee Stadium concert in New York on Sunday night.
The Grammy winning singer performed their 2009 hit “Run This Town” with Jay-Z, before treating the crowd to a solo performance of her 2015 track “Bitch Better Have My Money.”
Addressing the audience, Rihanna admitted she was a little nervous after her break from performing.
“Y’all know I’m rusty, right? It’s been a while,” she told the crowd, later adding, “I miss this!”
For the performance, the thirty eight year old wore a custom chocolate brown leather outfit by Saint Laurent, with faux fur details, stacked belts and matching accessories.
It was Rihanna’s first live performance since a 90 minute show in India in March 2024, at the pre-wedding celebrations for Indian billionaire heir Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. Her last major US performance was the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, where she revealed she was expecting her second child.
Her longtime partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their ten month old daughter, Rocki, watched from the audience.
Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Barbados, Rihanna is one of the best selling music artists in the world, with more than 250 million records sold. Since her debut in 2005, she has released hits including “Umbrella,” “Diamonds,” “Work,” “We Found Love” and “Only Girl (In the World).”
Away from music, Rihanna has built a business empire through Fenty Beauty and her fashion ventures, becoming the first female musician to reach billionaire status. She has also appeared in several films and was named a National Hero of Barbados in 2021.
She has not announced a new tour or album, but the appearance has fans hoping more live shows could follow.
