The South African sprinting trio has crashed out of the Olympics at the semi-final stage.
Anaso Jobodwana, Shaun Maswanganyi and Clarence Munyai failed to qualify for the 200m final.
Maswanganyi was the most impressive of the three, finishing his semi-final qualifier in fourth place with a time of 20.18, too slow by 0.05, a fraction of a fraction of a second. The 20-year-old has proved he is one to watch for the future, with impressive performances.
Jobodwana finished eighth in his heat with a time of 20.88 which was nearly a second off the pace. Munyai finished in sixth place after getting off to an impressive start but his time of 20.49 was unfortunately not enough to get into the final as the 23-year-old struggled in the second half of the race.
South Africans will only have the men’s 4x400m relay events to keep their eye on as the heats get underway on Friday at 1.25pm.
