- The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa CEO Avhapfani Tshifularo says suppliers will no longer sell extra fuel beyond what customers agreed to buy in their contracts.
- Tshifularo says there is no fuel shortage in South Africa right now, and the public will be told if that changes.
Fuel suppliers in South Africa are now refusing to sell more fuel than what customers agreed to buy in their contracts. Large-scale buyers who try to purchase extra fuel will be turned away.
The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa (Fiasa) has told large-scale customers about the change.
Fiasa CEO Avhapfani Tshifularo says the move is meant to stop panic buying. He says when customers panic, they try to buy more fuel than they need. He says this can cause shortages that did not need to happen.
There is no single rule that covers all suppliers. Tshifularo says each supplier will decide for itself how to handle fuel sales going forward.
Tshifularo says there is no fuel shortage in South Africa right now, even though fuel prices have gone up.
He says the government and the fuel industry will tell the public if things change.
