Showdown for Sundowns and Chiefs

PICK OF THE SPORTS: Mamelodi Sundowns will be out to prove their loss against TS Galaxy was just a hiccup – there is no better way to prove that than by defeating Kaizer Chiefs.

➤ The Brazilians were shocked by the Nelspruit side on Wednesday night when they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in just their second game of the season.

Sundowns go into every fixture as overwhelming favourites to win – even more so on Wednesday as Galaxy had never before even scored a goal against the champions.

Masandawana will hope to put that loss behind them with a victory over Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

The Amakhosi have lost one and won their other two fixtures this season but the clash against Sundowns will be new coach Arthur Zwane’s first real test.

It is no secret that Sundowns replaced Chiefs as the major team from South Africa, a spot Chiefs hope to claim back.

They can start by putting a real dent in Sundowns’ confidence with a win in Saturday’s first game.

Sundowns will host Chiefs at 3pm on Saturday, the clash live on DStv channel 202.

➤ The Premier League is only heading into its second game week but there is a London derby set to let off fireworks.

In one of the most fiercely contested fixtures, Chelsea will take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides won their opening encounters but Spurs looked the better of the two and head to Stamford Bridge as favourites.

There is also the fight to win the league title between Manchester City and Liverpool and then there is the battle to be the best of the rest.

Chelsea claimed that honour last season but Spurs look confident they can replace their London rivals in third spot this campaign.

The Blues will host their former manager Antonio Conte on Sunday at 5.30pm, the derby is live on DStv channel 203.

➤ There is only one thing better than the Springboks beating the All Blacks and that is doing it twice.

The Springboks will get the chance to pull off the double on Saturday as the teams head to Johannesburg for the second clash.

South Africa claimed their largest victory over New Zealand since 1928 last Saturday and would expect the momentum to be in their favour at Ellis Park.

The All Blacks, on the other hand will look to make amends for their defeat and restore both their dignity and pride before leaving the African continent.

The second clash between the Springboks and the All Blacks is set for 5.05pm on Saturday, live on DStv channel 201.
