- A video of a North West was shared on social media without her permission in what appears to be a criminal act.
- The former mayor calls for the focus to be on finding who shared the private content rather than targeting the victim.
A sexual video of a North West sitting mayor has been shared without her consent on social media platforms.
The ANC councillor, who was elected mayor in 2021 after local government elections, has become the victim of what appears to be a breach of privacy.
Former mayor Dimakatso Malwane has spoken out in support of the mayor.
“The video was taken in the mayor’s bedroom and was meant for private use, she shouldn’t be asked about something that she did in private,” she said.
“You acknowledge that the video was taken privately, you should not publish a story on something that happened in a private space. Why should you make a follow-up about a private video,” Malwane continued.
“It doesn’t have anything to do with anyone or anything, as women we should be cautioning people from circulating the video. You should be going after the person who published the video, not the victim,” she said.
The mayor could not be reached for comment at the time of publishing. Multiple attempts to contact her by phone went unanswered.
