Seeing double: Wednesday’s South African secret

It seems there’s no escaping Wednesday. The hit Netflix show has created such a buzz that feels more famous than the day of the week it’s named after.

However, what’s less well known about the supernatural horror comedy is that the main character’s stunt double is actually from South Africa!

The show revolves around the main character Wednesday, played by Jenny Ortega, who attempts to solve a monster mystery at her school.

Her stunt double is played by another Jenny: Jenny Ayumi Umbhau.

The brave stunt artist was born in South Africa to Japanese and German parents. She grew up in Cape Town and later moved to the United States to pursue a career in the film industry.

Through her love for stunts, Jenny started her career in South Africa where she honed her skills and gained momentum as a stunt woman.

She was even part of the crew that filmed Black Sails.

Jenny has train-smashed her way to the top with some incredible credits up in her name,

working on some of the biggest sets and movies.

She has worked on Resident Evil TV series and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. She has even worked on some notable movies such as Tomb Raider and Escape Room, with the recent one being Wednesday on Netflix.

On her Instagram post that she posted, Jenny wrote: “I was lucky enough to be the stunt double for the incredibly talented Jenna Ortega on Wednesday.

“It was such a pleasure working with you, you are such a kick*ss, bad*ss human! You truly didn’t need a stunt double but I am grateful to have been yours.”
