The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has confirmed that troops will be deployed to KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

In a statement released on Monday midday SANDF said they have commenced with pre- deployment processes and procedures.

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure is reported to have requested assistance from the SANDF to assist police in both provinces.

“The duration and number of deploying soldiers will be determined based on the assessment of the situation on the ground by the relevant law enforcement agencies,” the statement said.

This is a developing story.
