Mohamed Salah has finally put pen to paper on a new long-term Liverpool contract, keeping him at the club until 2025.

The 30-year-old put an end to speculation about his future by extending his contract by a further three years and will become the highest paid player in the club’s history.

After five years at Anfield, the PFA players’ player of the year for 2021/22 has dedicated his prime years to Liverpool and has been rewarded with a deal reportedly in the region of £350,000 (R7 million) per week.

Liverpool’s sporting director Julian Ward flew out to Mykonos, where the Egyptian star has been on vacation, to get the deal done; with the club announcing it on Friday night.

Salah posed by the poolside in the club’s new kit and said that it was a “happy day for everyone.”

“I feel great and I’m excited to win trophies with the club. It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next,” he added.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp told the club’s website that he believes Salah’s best years are still to come.

“I’m really pleased. Really, really pleased. It’s the best decision for us and best decision for him. He belongs with us I think. This is his club now,” Klopp said.

“Of course it has taken a little time but that’s absolutely okay, and the best things are always worth waiting for anyway. Mo is one of the best players in the world; it’s only normal there are things to sort when you are at his level. So big credit to Julian Ward and Mike Gordon for guiding us to this destination.”
