Red Bull could lose prized asset

Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey is reportedly considering leaving the team.

Known for his success in designing championship-winning cars, Newey’s departure would be a punishing blow for Red Bull.

The reports come during claims of internal disputes and the result of an investigation involving team principal Christian Horner. Horner was cleared of allegations of inappropriate behaviour following a complaint by a female employee.

Newey has been with Red Bull since 2006 and has been a key factor in the team’s seven drivers’ titles and six constructors’ championships.

Reports suggest the 65-year-old is no longer comfortable with the environment around the team.

Despite Red Bull’s statement that Newey is contracted through 2025 and unaware of any plans for him to join another team, the reports have raised concerns about the future of its star driver Max Verstappen, who is under contract until 2028 but might reconsider his options if Newey leaves.

Red Bull has suffered internal clashes since the allegations against Horner became public, with a power struggle reportedly occurring within the Red Bull GmbH parent company following the death of co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz.

This conflict has seen figures like Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, and Helmut Marko, the motorsport director, say they are unhappy with Horner’s leadership.

Despite these off-track challenges, Red Bull has kept up its strong performances on the track, securing victories in four out of the season’s first five races.
